5YO PC Needs Upgrading

MrConcrete04

Budget (including currency): sensible amount so up to 300 cos I just wanna upgrade my current build EUR

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: school work, gaming (WarThunder, Minecraft, F1 2018, Fortnite)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I do everything on a 1440p 144Hz Monitor

Current parts:

Corsair 100R

i5 6500

Noctua NH-U9B SE2

MSI B150M PRO-VDH

Kingston Hyper X Fury (2*8 @ 2133MHz)

240GB 2.5" Kingston SSD (Boot)

1TB 3.5" Seagate HDD @ 7200rpm

1TB 2.5" Western Digital Blue (recent addition)

EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti SSC (4GB)

TPLink PCIe x1 wireless WiFi adapter (however I am planning to run ethernet into my room at some point in the near future)

Corsair VS550

1*corsair factory case fan (120mm)

3*Corsair AF120 LED (white)

I've been meaning to upgrade for a while now however I don't want to throw everything away cos I am quite attached.

Thank You

At $370 / 300euro we're a little limited but there's definitely some stuff you can do.

1) New GPU - I'm thinking either a new 1660super, or even better, see what is floating around on the used market for 1070ti's, 1080's, 1080ti's, 2070 supers, etc

2) In socket upgrade with a used skylake CPU.  6600k or 6700k

That's going to use up your budget right there, but can definitely breath new life into your PC.

Won't have you running 1440p ultra at 144fps in the latest games, but should make for a viable system overall.  Depending where you live some of that used stuff might be hard to find for a reasonable price, but it's well worth a look.

Get a gtx 1660 super. If you are ok with a gtx 1650 super (2 times the performance of 1050ti) , then buy a gtx 1650 and a r5 2600 or a 3600. even a 3300x will work for your work

hey! i know to use a computer

I was thinking about getting some new parts and swapping them in one at a time, currently one of the limiting factors is my motherboard and case. Any recommendations? I might slowly extend my budget and squeeze in smthn along the lines of a 10th Gen i5 or whatever cos as much as I love AMD I don't really wanna have to deal with all the potential driver issues etc. Any motherboard/CPU/case recommendations?

Why? Even a 3100 performs almost like this

I was thinking of slowly upgrading all components so CPU/mobo/case as those are currently the limiting factors and in addition to that intel 10th Gen chips are cheaper where I live for whatever reasons, potentially extending my budget and I'd like +6 cores and +12 threads

Get a 10400 if its cheap.. thats some good value.. or get a 10600k if you want some overclocking!  you can wait, wait some more time and get a rtx 3060.. save some more and upgrade your cpu later.. or do the cpu first!

Basically, there isn't enough in the budget to do much of a system build.  There's enough money there to do a GPU, and honestly not much else.

Doing a GPU now and then getting into a socket am4 or lga1200 when the budget allows is probably a much better long term solution now that you mention it.  A new CPU realistically means a new mobo and RAM too, which combined doesn't leave enough to upgrade that 1050.

Eventually ending up with something like this?:

buy them one by one, do the gpu later?

I would do graphics card first.  That will get you more frames per second TODAY.

There will be new stuff available or prices may change by the time you do anything else, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

You can keep your existing case by the way, unless you just don't like it.

The case is... a bit of a pain to work in, has little to no airflow and absolutely no dust filtration. Would u have any suggestions? I know the h510 quite well but do u have anything else you would suggest? I do like vertically mounted graphics cards

This should be the best upgrade for you...

  1. Sell your existing CPU, Mobo and RAM combo for around €150-200.
  2. Sell that 1050ti and PSU for around €150.

So, effectively you will have extra €300 which can be used in ur budget.
