Hello all,

Long story short I’ve started a new Desktop build for myself, however regrettably didn’t ask the motherboard retailer to update the BIOS for Ryzen 5000 for £10 extra. Now when I try to start the desktop, I get a black screen with a yellow/orange warning light on DRAM. Can’t even open into the BIOS as it doesn’t recognise the new CPU (or so I think is the cause of the warning light).

I’ve already tried single stick memory, check all 4 pin PSU connectors, check CPU connector is on correctly, and tried putting the graphics card on the other Pcie slot (for the record the graphics card’s fans aren’t spinning at all, however that might be due to idling or the BIOS issue).

If the issue is the BIOS not supported for Ryzen 5000, then my issue is that my motherboard doesn’t have a dedicated USB slot for BIOS flashing (however does support BIOS flashing itself) nor a BIOS flash button, and I don’t have an optic drive at hand.

In essence the question is, is my theory of it being an outdated BIOS correct, and if so what are my options to fix it (do I need to buy an optic drive or a ryzen gen 2 cpu)? Or if you don’t think it’s that, then what might I have missed?

Thank you to anyone that took the time to read this in the first place, I look forward to your insight into the matter.

That motherboard does support that CPU but it seems it needs version 2607 at least. Asus has version 3001 at the latest version to download.

You will however need an older CPU to update it from the bios. Ask around if anyone you know has a 3000 series for example and then you could update it.

But without knowing which BIOS version is on the MB (retailer might had it in stock for a long time) its a bit of a crapshoot.

You should check the Asus site which CPU is supported on the lowest BIOS version.

That mobo supports 2nd and 3rd gen Ryzen out of box. So you'll just need to find a 2000/3000 series ryzen or go to a local PC shop and they might have one.

Not all tho, the 2400G requires at least 1404 for example while the default BIOS version seems to be 0602. Hence the crapshoot part :D :(

That great, thanks for your help gents! As I don’t have a spare Ryzen Gen 3 CPU lying around or one I can borrow, I’ll just exchange the motherboard for one that does allow BIOS USB flashing. Thanks again! 😀

You could just go to a local PC repair shop.. They might have one.

Well, whatever suits you. Good Luck :)
