Hey guys it might be something simple but im not sure yet, i have a pretty decent internet connection on speedtest.net i get around 23 ping, 62 mb/s download and 19 mb/s upload. But when i am downloading games from origin and steam or just downloading files off of google i usually never exceed 10 mb/s download speed anybody know an explanation to this?

Well for one, I know steam allocates bandwidth per-IP to limit some people from burning Valve servers because they have gigabit, However, speeds can be majorly affected by download location.

Also, speed test tells you how fast your internet is with the server closest to you (which is why you can choose your location in speedtest). Speedtest does not accurately tell you your actual download speed, as it depends on a large range of variables, such as location, time of day, server bandwidth, hardware of server, file size, is it using a torrent system, etc. Speedtest tells you how fast you can download something, not how fast your downloads are.

I might be wrong.

... You do realize there is a difference between Mb and MB...

In the top image, it says your download speed is 63Mb/s

Your steam download speed is 6.9MB/s

Mb is mega-bits.

MB is mega-bytes.

there are 8 bits in a single byte. (8:10)

So, if you have a 100Mb/s download (Mega-bit)

that would be 12MB/s download (Mega-byte)

100 divided by 8 is 12

TL:DR

Your download speed is fantastic and you should stop doubting it now because you understand the difference in MB and Mb.

I might be wrong.

100 divided by 8 is 12.5.
