okay... so i put together a pc with old parts.....(ancient, not used)....i want to use it as a linux box....

i press power, and everything is spinning (cpu fan, hd).....but nothing posts on screen. ive tried both mobos display ports (vga and dvi).... but... nothing...

 

please help, this pc has been gathering dust all summer

 

and yes i did pull the cmos battery and ram....

 

amd a10-6800

4gb ram corsair ddr3

psu..... nameless...400watts

mobo, asrock something

hd, 3.5" 250gb

you said that its been gathering dust all summer, what are you on about? And that its ancient, not used. Not brand new. Maybe put a bit more effort into your post if you want help buddy.

Do you have a speaker on your mobo? Your monitor is on right? see if you can get into the bios at aby spamming delete or f2

I've always had good luck with ebay but it's possible that one of the parts is faulty, mobo, ram, cpu. Make sure that your cables work too and that everything is plugged in

Id test the RAM first because thats usually the one that goes deflective

yeah if you remove the ram and you still get everything spinning, that's probably the culprit
