Hi forum huggers,

I have a close friend who has a business creating digital advertising, 3D graphics, even some CGI work.

His rig desperately needs a GPU upgrade. He is using a Quadro K2000 which just isn't designed for the kind of work he's pushing through lately.

Looking for for some genuine advice and recommendations. Please no fan boy comments.

I know no card will perform amazingly in all software suits, but for applications like lightwave, MAYA, Blender, Photoshop, PTC Creo etc,

what would be the best card to use?

Budget (the lucky sod) is not a consideration. He is willing to throw cash at this as he wants to get at least 5 years out of this upgrade.

not many people on this forum know that much about quadros, i just recommend looking at benchmarks and going from those.

I gathered that from the lack of comments. My mate is completely open to any GPU ideas though, only reason he used a Quadro was because it was gifted to him.

If an AMD card would do a better job then he's ok with that, just doesn't know what to go for

My point is that most people on this forum know about gaming graphics cards and that's it (for graphics cards). quadros have less cuda cores than similarly priced gaming cards, but perform better. The amd cards are even more unknown (I think). my only real recommendation is to get a workstation grade card (nvidia is generally better, but not always) and to look at performance of the cards in your price range.

he doesn't have one, he's throwing money at this with a view to recouping costs within 2 months.

780TI easily. That will get the job done and then some if the programs he uses use Cuda, if they us OpenGL then I'd go for an R9 290 or R9 290x.
