First my build:

Ryzen 1600AF

RX 570 4GB Sapphire

16 GB GSkill Ripjaws 2400Mhz

Asrock AB350m Pro4

550W 80+ Gold Modular Seasonic

I did a CPU upgrade recently from an R3 1200 to an R5 1600AF and I've been having weird crashes. The display freezes and completely stops responding to inputs. When audio is playing, though, I still hear it playing as normal even after the screen stops working. The crashes also happen at random intervals: sometimes it takes about an hour, while other times it takes less than 5 minutes. Some software extends the time until crash, though. When playing Minecraft, it lasts at least 1/2 an hour longer. At first I thought it was the CPU, but I reseated and repasted enough times to be sure it wasn't. In addition, I've had a few BSODs (blue screens of death), and the error they mention is as follows:

STOP CODE: VIDEO TDR FAILURE

What failed: atikmpag.sys

Based on this info, I think a GPU issue has somehow developed while I was doing the upgrade. I didn't have any GPU issues before now, so I don't really know where to start. Both my OS and my GPU drivers are fully updated, so I don't think that's the issue either.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

Is resetting CMOS the same as clearing CMOS? Also, would that reset my BIOS to the first revision?

It will change your bios to default setting, but won't change the bios version

Yes it's the same as clearing CMOS

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I'm assuming that means you also don't have another PC you can stick your GPU into to see if it works. If you haven't already, you can try solution #4 in the article here:

For that fix, would it work if the atikmpag.sys file wasn't under system32? I found it under the downloads folder in an "all-in-one" AMD driver folder (I can find the exact folder if it helps).
