Intel iris Xe or Nvidia mx 450 ?

Go to solution Solved by MeatySoup42,

Okay, it's weird how the UK and USA budget option (Ryzen 4th gen) is overpriced in India is odd. I would not suggest the ryzen 3500u as it is an older chip. It will not age/perform as well as newer intel or amd chips from 2020.

Mx 450 will on average perform better for gaming and productivity. It is based on the same graphics chip as the GTX 1650 (The TU117) but has some downgraded features. It will use more battery than a Iris XE graphics solution so will have worse battery life. However, they will be both be able to run the games you specified at 60fps 1080p and most laptops will last in excess of 6 hours doing simple chrome, excel and word tasks. On the UK product page, for the laptop you mentioned (lenovo ideapad slim 5i) it states 12.5 hours but double check the battery life of your config on the website.

Both configurations of the laptop should fit your requirements so choose whatever is in your budget and in stock.

I hope this helps, have a great day!

If you're only going to playing those games on your 1080p 60hz laptop screen, those parts will be very overkill!

For those games at 1080p 60hz, a better value would be a amd ryzen 5 4500u (or similar) cpu. It comes with vega 6 graphics. This will still be overkill for valorant, CSGO and LOL. You will get over 100 fps playing at 1080p.

I don't know what area you live in so I can't suggest a model...

As for Iris Xe vs Mx 450, they may perform about the same but they mx 450 will be better for video-editing and vram heavy applications. Also having more vram will make it more future-proof as games use more and more of it.

For those games though, It would be overkill. Why do you want that model specifically?

I can’t find any Ryzen 5 4500u laptops in my country (India), most are out of stock or are ridiculously overpriced.                                                                                                                                                Are 3rd gen Ryzen laptops good enough ? Those are available plenty here (Ryzen 5 3500u] . I also need good battery life around 6+ hours doing light spreadsheets and word documents..
