Evening!

Helping my friend build his first PC from components I'm giving him used in my build until January 2020.  The parts in the build are based around a Sandy Bridge Core i5.  My current GPU (a GTX 970) still works pretty well but have been looking to upgrade for some time, and another friend is selling his GTX 1060 6gb for $120.  As of the moment, I am considering giving my friend building his first PC my old 970 as a starter GPU.

I realize that a GTX 1060 6gb is not a dynamic upgrade from a 970, so I wanted to check if it would be worth the $120 he's offering it for.  My budget is very tight currently so 20 and 30 series are very out of the question for the moment and will be for the forseeable future.

Also, will the 970 perform poorly or severely bottleneck alongside a Sandy Bridge i5?

Thank you.
