I upgraded to a B550 and a 3700x and currently I have 16GB (2x8) of 3200mhz Gskill which I carried over from my b450 and 2600x. I’m looking to upgrade my graphics card soon when all this shortage goes away and am looking to try some 1440p gaming so I also need to upgrade to a higher memory capacity. I know newer Ryzen isn’t as finicky as first gen or second but is it advisable to replace my kit now for a 16x2 or should I be okay to add another 2x8 kit of the same brand and speed? I figured I could try the extra 2x8 kit and if it doesn’t work could return it. Thanks.

I don't really recall a PC game that 16GB RAM would not suffice I've only ene recent played just CP2077 though. If you're doing some work, maybe then...

I'd go either with 4x identical (identical part and rev.) RAM or 2x16GB.

Note* I’m doing a bit of future proofing I know I’m not using my full 16GB now but I’m wanting to get more than 6 months out of this. For a 1440p upgrade and long term memory solution I’d image 16GB of system memory in 2022 would be less than ideal.

16gb 3200mhz should be good, you don't need to upgrade.

only simulation games will benefit from big rams like Cities Skylines, Transport Fever etc.

Resolution upgrade should be taken from the VRAM not the system RAM.

Higher than 1080p gaming you should get more than 4gb vram on your gpu.
