Hey guys,

I'm looking for a little bit of help here. I bought a MSI R9 390 last week for $80 and it arrived today. Got it installed and the drivers working and I have two monitors connected to it right now, my main a XG2402 144HZ 1080p monitor and a random 1080p 60hz dvi connected also. I can only get my XG working at 120 hz, there is no 144hz option. Do I need a displayport for the 144? When using a nvidia card before this, the HDMI worked fine with 144hz. Also, you guys think I got a decent deal on the card? In your opinion, how's it still holding up for 1080P gaming? Deciding if I want a 3060 Ti when they are widely available or wait until next year.

Thanks.

You will need DP for 144Hz, as the HDMI on that card only supports up to 1080P 120Hz (version 1.4a). My guess is the Nvidia card was a bit newer, and therefore had newer HDMI ports and therefore you could just use HDMI.

$80

I would say good deal. a used 580 would of been around $50 more at least with little improvement.   The GPU prices are stupid right now.  even my $85 1200af I have in one of my machines is now $150 new... I picked up a 380 and a 380x about 8 months ago for $35 and $45 off ebay

Alright, thanks. And yeah you're right the Nvidia card is newer. Looks like a DP cable is on my list!

Yeah, that's about what I figured. I had a 2070S before this card but I downgraded because I figured I didn't need all the performance and needed the extra cash. Was watching some threads and saw the 390 come up for $80 so I jumped on it. So far I'm playing high/ultra on Cod Cold war at 60-90 FPS, so it should last me fine for now. Gotta test out Microsoft Flight Simulator yet.
