not getting full network speed

I have a 100ft cat 7 cable with rj45 connectors running from my router to my pc. I ran a speed test and only got 360mbps. any ideas?

What's your quoted speed from your ISP?

fast.com and Verizon in the US

Have you tried logging into Verizon's website and using their speed tester? Broadband and Wi-Fi Internet Speed Test | Verizon Fios

Don't be afraid to try other sites as well like speedtest.net

Also a few things to consider:

- Ensure your cable is in good condition and there are no tears or strains anywhere

- Restart both your router and your computer

- If possible test with another cable

- Make sure your router can handle gigabit (I know seems stupid but seen it before)

Cat7 is shielded and can go a hundred meters max so distance isn't the issue. It could be noise on the lines coming into your house/apartment, or a bad connection at the tap (source) or even at the junction in your home.

Are you at an apartment or house? And how long have you been getting substandard speed?

I have a asus router rated for gigabit. I just got my cat 7 cable and ran it through my basement. I live in a house. There is a cat 7 cable going from the box in the basment to a router upstairs and then the cat 7 runs from my router to my room. I have restarted my pc and internet. Here is a link for the cable:

That cable is certainly overkill for your needs :P

But either way, do the other websites give you similar speeds? If so there may be an issue at the tap itself outside your house. I'd place a call to Verizon and see if they can test it on their end to make sure the issue isn't theirs. Were you ever getting your quoted speeds or has this been happening since the original install?

Maybe I will check the speed with a 1ft cable next to the router

Just wondering do you know how many mbps cat5e is rated for at 200ft?

Max distance for Cat5e is 100m which is over 300 feet, and it's gigabit capable.

What model is the Asus router? Also, is it connected to a modem? If it is, try connecting to directly to the modem and do a speedtest.

It is a asus RT-ac88u. It is connected to a box in the basement that connects to the router, i don't think its a modem.
