An SSD will be much MUCH faster for load times than an HDD in games. You could look at getting a cheaper SATA SSD instead of an NVME drive.

SSD's aren't that expensive unless you're looking at the wrong ones. Samsung has a lot of overpriced SSD's.

Get a Crucial MX500 half the price.

It's up to you. Basically pay the premium, or suffer in load times聽馃ぃ

**Btw, I think we're basing our "cheaper" ideas of the Crucial on the fact that we're just used to the Samsung's being so much more expensive. That particular drive isn't as expensive though. I for one, at least, got the 860 EVO confused with the 860 Pro.

My bad

thats what im afraid of i dont want slower load times. heck i put out for 2 1tb samsung 970 evo plus drives because of this hoping that would be enough but it aint so not i either have to buy a 2 tb nvme drive and sell the old one which i hate selling crap, buy a 2 tb ssd online for 300+, or suffer load times with a hdd

Yeah that's tough, I mean a Hard Drive would be slower, but if that would be most convenient, it's still an option. Only get the SSD if it won't break the bank聽馃憤

I have a 2TB Hard Drive myself though, so I can't complain too much.

HDD's are generally twice the load time, but depending on the game that might be completely irrelevant. Older games don't have that much to load anyways so does 2 seconds instead of 4 seconds really make any difference, and with single player games many times loading happens in the background anyways, so the initial load time being, let's say a full minute, does it once again even matter? Launch the game and get up to grab a drink or stretch out a little.

SSD's are great when there's lots of re-loading of assets (think of online multiplayer games), but you could probably get three 4 TB HDD's for that same money, so in all honesty if I was you I'd go for the HDD and keep the games that really benefit from SSD on that because you have so much SSD storage already anyway.

Absolutely it will make a difference. You'll just need to decide what's the higher priority for you:聽having more of your games installed at once or loading your favourite games in bearable times.
