BIOS Renamer

xenic

When downloading the latest BIOS for my Asus X570 Prime Pro, the file also contains an executable "BIOSRenamer".

In the past, I have succesfully updated my BIOS without using this exe.

Could someone please explain why the exe is there? Just curious.

(as far is I can determine, this is specific to Asus motherboards)

That executable file is there for when you need to use USB Flashback. You only need to use USB flashback if your UEFI firmware becomes corrupt and you need to re-flash it, even if your system won't POST. There should be a special USB port on your motherboard for this purpose, and the file needs to have a special name for it to be flashed, which is what the BIOSRenamer.exe file is for, it will automatically rename the UEFI firmware file to the correct name so that USB Flashback will work.

If you are just updating your UEFI firmware normally, then you do not need to worry about renaming that file or running that BIOSRenamer.exe file.
