Don't do it. Wait for the 1650 super to be in stock. If you HAD to order today, this RX 570 could work, it is quite expensive however.

The 1 TB HDD and 256 GB SSD is still fine

Thats just a "mini" version of the 1650 super. It will have the exact same performance as all other 1650 supers.

Thanks for the help.

@Downkey @HelpfulTechWizard if I get the components you've listed, do i need anything else?

presumably an operating system (planning Windows 10 Home 64 bit),

monitor, keyboard, mouse

speakers / headphones

- do i need to get any parts so that speakers/ headphones / wifi work?

I'm actually trying to get the components for my son to build, so sorry for ignorance on all this.

That all depends
Does your son have a keyboard, mouse, and headphones?
Does he use wifi?
Also don't buy a Windows 10 key at MSRP. Huge waste of money, especially for your budget

Yes, keyboard, mouse, headphones should be sorted.

We will need to use some sort of internet & likely computer will be upstairs, WIFI box downstairs.

What do you mean 'at MSRP'?  I thought it needed some kind of operating system? (I might use it for work, as well as son's gaming, but have a Microsoft 365 through work we can use)

Ah - didn't realise that.  Is it an immediate download @wall03 and does it work just as well?  If so, I might leave that up to my son to sort & save myself £100!!!

you can download it for free at Microsoft's website, ebay provides an activation code needed to use the computer to it's full potential

So how much worse will a computer with

Asus Prime H310-plus R2.0 & GTX 1650 (not super) & only 256GB SSD not 500GB (+1TB HDD)

be compared to

Gigabyte Z390D & 1650 Super & 500GB SSD (+1TB HDD)?

I know it's entry level, but they are both way out of my original budget, so i do want there to be some future proofing involved.  can't afford to upgrade within the next year or two!

Ok - that 1650 super no longer there.

What is the 'next best thing' & how much worse is it?

I'd rather have all the parts so that son can start building on christmas day, but if it is a huge jump down for not much less money, then I might consider leaving the graphics card & putting an 'i owe you' in ....?
