RX 6800 underperforming

Hi all,

 

I managed to purchase a RX 6800 off Amazon at MSRP, and I am still waiting to purchase the R5 5600X to start my new build.

 

Today I received my RX 6800 and I put it in my old system and ran some games and benchmarks. However, I didn't see the performance improvement expected, and benchmark scores are way off those found online (2nd percentile per UserBenchmark in the link above). I know the rest of my system is very old, but could it affect the GPU benchmark scores this much? If this is not normal, I want to start the returns/RMA process ASAP. Thanks all for your help.

You need to clean drivers with DDU. Make sure to disable automatic driver installation in windows https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/disable-automatic-driver-downloads-on-windows-10

First off, userbenchmark is complete bullshit and should be ignored.

 

To your problem.

Your CPU is a big bottleneck for such a powerful GPU. Most people who measured their 6800 likely have a much more recent CPU. That's why it's "underperforming".

Hello Doctor,

 

I should've mentioned that I'm switching from Nvidia to AMD GPU, but you figured it out anyway. I did what you recommended and performance is much better, with benchmark score in unigine heaven just about doubling. Thank you for your help!
