Chome bookmarks deleted after update

Blizzforte

After the newest Windows 10 update, all Chrome bookmarks got deleted. I tried going to AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default to locate my bookmarks, but I could not enter the folder and got an Windows error message that the folder is corrupted.

How can I get all of my bookmarks back? I tried deleting the Windows updates from today but that did not work.

Help needed!

Have you tried re-syncing your settings with your Google account?

I fear there may be no way of recovering your bookmarks. You may want to try data recovery tools

My Laptop: A MacBook Air

My Desktop: Don’t have one

My Phone: An Honor 8s (although I don’t recommend it)

My Favourite OS: Linux

My Console: A Regular PS4

My Tablet: A Huawei Mediapad m5

That would work because Google syncs bookmarks, history and extensions by default, if you log into your account.

I have the sync option turned off. I don't think there is anything to sync now. I am also logged in on Chrome.

Thanks. But how? This is madness! How could this happen... Do you recommend any? I don't know which file to search for and where with the recovery tool.

Which is where you messed up.

I am no expert but maybe try Piriform Recuva but then again I have never tried it and it is owned by Avast so you may be wary about that and after the ccleaner Incident.

I tried the EaseUS with the Chrome folder in AppData. I'm not sure what to search for to get the bookmarks back. Tried terms like "bookmark" and ".bak".

Update:

System recovery and Windows troubleshooting solved the issue! I can again open the "Default" folder and Chrome can as well. The bookmark files were not deleted! Wow!
