So I am getting an Asus Rog x-570e and am getting 2 nvme SSD’s, 1 Samsung 970 evo 500gb and a Sabrent Rocket 4 plus 1 tb. I want to use the really big Heatsink that comes with it, but since I’m getting a 3080 I won’t have enough room so I’m going to put my 970 in the big slot above the first PCIE slot. Do I need a heatsink or no?

Unless you're constantly doing intensive writes and reads, you'll be fine without a heatsink. To put into perspective, M.2 SSDs in laptops have no heatsinks whatsoever. In fact, they don't even get any airflow, something M.2 SSDs in desktops will certainly have.

I remember watching a Gamers Nexus video about nvme ssd heat sinks - iirc he showed that nvme ssds actually prefer a relatively warm operating temperature, and too cool reduced write endurance vs. a nominal temperature.

That said, I got a heat sink for my 660p because it's ugly green.
