Hey guys!

I got a new router a tp-link wireless n router. We decided to ditch our old D-link wireless g router. When i set it up i fallow every instruction on the manufacturers setup guide. I have a wifi connection but can't access any websites. I plugged the old router in and everything worked fine again.... Does any of you know what can i do? Is the router not compatible with the modem? Or am i at fault?

Thank you!

Maybe it's bind to old routers MAC address?

I don't think that is possible, since the router is just hooked up to wires and there isn't a system that would control that unless the provider is really uptight, but I've never heard of something like that

Maybe it's bind to old routers MAC address?

This. Former tech support of a router manufacturer here. Almost all of contacts that involves with no Internet access with LAN access on new routers tends to be with ISPs only providing an IP Address to the older router basing on its WAN MAC Address.

I don't think that is possible, since the router is just hooked up to wires and there isn't a system that would control that unless the provider is really uptight, but I've never heard of something like that

Most cables providers are uptight its ridiculous.

ok, I live in Austria and they are pretty relaxed about, changing mac address and IPs if you consult them, they also don't care about filesharing

You can manually copy the WAN MAC Address of the older router and put it on the newer one. It's in the router configuration page somewhere, but I haven't got a chance to look into a TP-Link router in more depth.

I tried copy-ing the old MAC Address from network (on mac) and it didn't change at all. Still can't connect to the router.

If your ISP requires you do PPP, then copy the PPP details to the new one and it'll work fine.

what is ppp? And how do i get it? i can't log in to the old router.

Make sure it is not the LAN MAC Address as some router manufacturers display only one MAC address where it doesn't explicitly state the WAN MAC Address. You will need to login to the old router's settings to get the details about its WAN MAC Address.

That's Point-to-Point protocol. Think of it as some settings needed by some ISPs in order for your router to get an IP Address.
