What would you recommend? It was $250 when I brought it, and didn't want AMD.

I'd go with the 10400 when it's below 160. 6 Cores w HT.

i5-9600k seems to perform better, I needed to use intel because some of the software I use does not support AMD processors.

Some custom softwares and drivers, sorry unable to state their names. When I was building my parts lists, i5-9600k benchmarks seems to beat 3600 and 3600x in gaming which matters more to me then workstation. The fan seems come with an adapter for VDG header for gigabytes board but I don't think my board has a VDG header, this will still work right?

it should work if you have standard fan headers
