Go to solution Solved by boggy77,

so the 10400f can draw a max of 140W under full stress test

the 5700xt can spike up to 250W again under stress test if you overclock it

the rest of the system doesn't draw more than 100w, most likely closer to 50w.

so in total, you're looking at a max power consumption of 500W, if you overclock the gpu and cpu (limited overclocking ability) and if you run prime 95 and furmark at the same time (not recommended).

during gaming, it will draw closer to 400w.

so the 550 txm will be fine

okay so i’m very new to pc building and was recommended a 550w tx550m gold certified psu, this is to go along side my radeon 5700xt gaming x and my intel i5 10400f along with the mobo etc. when the gpu came it said “600w minimum needed” and i panicked and asked people, looked on google etc and it’s very mixed, some people are saying 550 is fine and others are saying get a 600-750w psu. so my question is what do i need.

i’m in the pcmr discord and everyone’s saying i should get a 650 because 550 would probably just shut my pc off on my desktop so i’m really scared, like if i genuinely need to i’ll return my psu today and get a 650

It's fine the system consumes 450w at most. The recommended psu was up until this gen (the rx6800 and rtx3000) always an overestimation so even people with crap psu's could possibly be fine. So don't worry. If a GOOD QUALITY 650w is barely more sure why not get it more upgrade room then but if it's a lot more then don't

sorry to be annoying but like, are you sure it’ll be fine, i’d prefer not to upgrade if i genuinely do not need to but if i actually need to because it’s going to affect my pc then i will

That is to cover the situation where you pair the 5700xt with an overclocked 10900k and a low quality power supply. The 10400f draws half the power of the 10900k and the corsair txm is very good quality and can handle high transient loads just fine.
