Setting up Freenas to be accessed out of network over VPN

TiernanS

Hi! I'm building my own Freenas system but I want to be able to access it out of my home network. I'm going to be using it to host a modded Minecraft server plus store school files, photos, and movies similar to Google drive and photos. I haven't been able to find good tutorials on how to set up a VPN on my system, or connect to that vpn itself. Any help would be appreciated! I have a ProtonVPN subscription if that makes any difference.

Setup a vpn server using something like openvpn or wireguard. Then put a client on your pc. You will need to port forward the server.

Then your will appear on the same network as the freenas, you can use smb shares normally.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot!
