Storage problem - help

Ana1

Please help.

I use maxtor one touch 3 hard drive.

When I open MyComputer and check drive free space it says 2.18GB free of 298GB, but open that drive, mark folders and check it shows that their size is 20GB only.

What does this mean? What can I do to fix this?

Did you make a ,,backup" copy for your Windows? Or is it automatically doing it? If yes - it takes up space but doesn't show up when you open the disk/folder. At least not always.

Id reformat the drive, and then copy the data back.

But, is there useful data in the background on this drive I might be missing? Data I dont see.

maybe Windirstat can be helpful. The program basically shows all the blocks of data on your harddrive and what they are assigned too. If this program can't find the data you're missing I would just reformat. (https://windirstat.net/)
