Looking to Upgrade

Matrim94

Built my Computer about 5 years ago with low end parts of the time and I'm looking to upgrade from then since some games i'm trying to play are lagging with low FPS including VR games. Will post what I have and what I was looking to upgrade it to and if anyone can help me that would be great.

Motherboard: AsusTeK Z87-Pro Rev1.xx

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz

CPU Cooler: Noctura NH-15 Dual Tower

GPU: Nividia GeForce GTX 970

Ram: 16G

PSU: EVGA 850 B3 80 Bronze series

Looking at upgrading basically everything if thats what it takes to end the lagging expecially for VR games.

Thinking about going for

Motherboard TRX40

CPU  Threadripper 3960x 3.8 Tetracosa

CPU Cooler  Asetek 670LS High Performance Liquid Cooling (240mm Radiator)

GPU is up in the air since AMD is going to release the new ones and have the file transfer between their GPU and CPU. but would go with a GeForce RTX 3080 10GB if not a AMD

Ram up grade to 32G

PSU 1200 if Need be

If anyone has any help or other parts that would work better please let me know.

Threadripper isn't meant for gaming. If you want something high end just go with the 5800x.

Nvidia is coming out with the same CPU/GPU stuff AMD has. It also only adds 1% to 2% to the performance in most titles so I wouldn't even consider it in your buying decision.

1000w should be plenty, as long as it's a quality unit. You can check the LTT PSU Tier List, pick from the first section.

Thanks and the only question would be clarification as you are recommending going for Nividia GPU or AMD

I'd personally go for Nvidia, but I have no faith in AMDs drivers.
