Ram slots

Tadziunia

Hey guys, have a question that nobody can't answer correctly. For example there is motherboard b150m night elf with 4 slots for memory, Msi says to put first stick into 2 slot and if you have second stick to 4th slot so dual channel would work correctly, if you have more ram then use 1 ir 3, like Usual. But what about, if you have 1 stick and you don't use 2 slot, but for example 4th, or 1 and 3 instead. Will system boot ? my friends said that it depends, because sometimes it might work or might not. How to know ?

Your friend is correct that it depends on the specific board. Although most boards will boot on a single stick in any slot (something I know from troubleshooting RAM failures). The board maker will always say which slot to use for proper optimization though, so always do what the manual states.

Just put it in the 2nd slot because the manual says so, and nothing bad should happen if you put it in a different slot, probably a little worse performance.

I have downloaded the manual, it recommends that you put it in the 2nd slot
