Hi,

I got a friend who is running into some frame issues, he is running a core i5-7600 with a gtx 1080, it doesn’t look like he’s running into any temp issues, I’m thinking it’s a cpu bottle neck as he’s always running at almost 100% cpu usage at 1080p

what do you think?

Hey!

What games is he playing? How much % usage does he have on his GPU while his CPU is at 100%? Also, how many Watts does his PSU have?

But now, fellow gamers, that was it for me. Please keep in mind, that this is just my personal opionion and I am no expert. Your system shall be cooled forever, see you next time.

Well yeah 100% cpu usage is a clear sign that the cpu is the issue. What games are they running? For modern gaming a quad core non ht i5 is not enough.

Lots of different types of games, at the moment some Cold War & sometimes far cry and stuff, I was also thinking the cpu seems to be a little bit weak for the gpu

Well if that is the case I can only agree with jasilon. This really sounds like a CPU Bottleneck to me.

The new cod and far cry are well too much for that i5. Nothing you can do but upgrade and I cannot recommend a 6700(k) or 7700(k) as they are really expensive and are only 8 threads which is next on the chopping block.

Agreed defenetly. Maybe a Ryzen Zen 2 or i7-8700 but intel is very expensive, if you go with a Ryzen then you can probably use the new motherboard for future chips by AMD.

Why those old cpu's? You can get better new stuff for as much if not cheaper.

Thats right, he could technically go for a new Ryzen 5000 series, but I think the older Ryzen are cheaper if I am correct and if the older Ryzen do not have a bottleneck problem with the 1080 - I would go for it. But of course buying a newer chip would be better in many ways. Especially if he wants to upgrade his GPU in the future.

Thank you both of you! You guys are legends, exactly what I thought too. I have suggested to him that maybe he should

Upgrade to an amd 3000 or 5000 series, preferably 5000 cause of the ipc uplift and gaming performance increase.
