flashing a Galaxy S phone

Hey Linus Tech Tips,

I have my dad's old Galaxy S phone and I was wondering what android ROMs would be good to load on it?  I know cyanogenmod is one option but what are some others that are good that would offer something different?  Any and all suggestions are welcome.

The original Galaxy S (1)?

There are about 1 billion options for that out there.

Check out XDA developers site.

Cyanogenmod might even get it to Android 4.4, but I wouldn't guarantee it would be the most appropriate version for it.

Did I just see 4.4 for a Galaxy S Plus there? (I9001)

Oh damn!And they stopped upgrading it at 2.3.6!Damn Samsung.I'm going to try something,hopefully I won't hard-brick it.

Wait a sec...so this phone can run 4.4 and my S3 won't get a 4.4 update?Holy balls!

Get CM11, has 4.4 for the S3, been meaning to upgrade from CM10.2 for a while.

I know.I'm just wondering why the hell isn't Samsung releasing the 4.4 update for the International S3 when even a 5 year old phone can run it.
