I've been having a problem for a few weeks where Windows does not boot properly. I click the power button and it loads to the login screen, but then it stops reacting, and I can't login or do anything. The lights on my keyboard will then go on and off, which usually only happens when the power is turned on and off, but the fans in my PC continue spinning as normal. The only thing to do is hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then Windows ALWAYS loads properly after the restart.

I didn't have this problem for the first 3 months or so with this PC. It's only been in the last month or two that I've had this problem.

I tried wiping my SSD and reinstalling Windows, which worked for a day, but this morning the problem is back.

I have already tried updating Windows, GPU drivers, chipsets and BIOS.

My specs:

AMD Ryzen 3600XT

AMD RX 5600XT

16GB RAM

Crucial P1 1TB SSD

Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite Mobo

ram in slots 2 and 4?

bios up to date?

chipset drivers installed?

any overclock applied in bios, including xmp profile or ram overclock?

yes, yes, yes, and no.

I should probably also mention that I didn't have this problem for the first 3 months or so with this PC. It's only been in the last month or two that I've had this problem.

remember when this started? did something change, like a hardware change or software change? see if you have a windows  backup from before the issue started, maybe you can revert to that

I don't know exactly when it started, but I think it was around 2 months ago. Back then, the problem only happened every 3rd or 4th regular boot, and progressively the problem turned into one that happens at every boot (except when I held the power button to turn the PC off the last time).

I didn't install any software around the time it started, and regardless, I reinstalled Windows, so any software that could have been interfering is gone now anyway.

Unfortunately I have no Windows backups to revert to.

if you reinstalled windows and the problem persists, it's msot likely a hardware issue. try memory testing, and checking the ssd as well.

also, what PSU do you have?

my PSU is a Corsair VS550.

Can you please explain further what you mean by memory and SSD testing?

to test your ram, use this:

https://www.memtest86.com/

to test your boot ssd, use chkdsk (google it)

if the psu is old or out of warranty, it might be what's causing this, as it's not a good unit, it's quite low quality
