(New to PC Gaming)

I noticed while playing RDR2 on 1440p max setting running 50fps average that my CPU usage floats around 40%-50% mean while while GPU stays at or below 10%. Is my CPU bottlenecking my GPU? If so what would you all recommend upgrading to?

My PC specs are:

CPU: Intel i7-7700

RAM:16 GB

GPU: RTX2070 Super Founder Edition

Motherboard: ASUS H270-Plus

If nothing is at 100%, you're not bottlenecking. Unless you missed a 0 there.

I'd recommend lowering the settings first. There's a bunch you can turn down, like going from Ultra to High, which will net decent frame rate gains.

Is it a 60hz or 144hz monitor?

What are you using to check GPU and CPU usage? Should be something like HWInfo64 or MSI Afterburner. If it's Task Manager it can be inaccurate or not showing the correct usage metric.

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

I have been using NZXT CAM software to monitor.

Thanks I will give that a shot!

sounds like up-scaling, check Nvidea Geforce Experience - the game - then the entry for resolution upscaling.

After downloading MSI Afterburner is shows my GPU usage to be 99% where NZXT Cam still shows 8-10%

That makes more sense given a quick look at benchmarks puts the 2070 Super at 50-80 FPS at 1440p depending on what settings are chosen.

You can likely reduce from "ultra/max everything!" and gain some FPS. Otherwise you're GPU limited currently.

I will do that. Thank you!

looks to be set to off

was just a guessing,

well I just googled it, found a youtube video with nearly the same speccs

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC i7-7700-GTX-1080Ti -1440p Ultra Benchmark

and he got 45fps average in the Benchmark - so it checks out.

BTW don't trust your Task Manager if it comes to CPU or GPU usage. CPUID HW Monitor and GPU-Z.

GPU-Z shows you the reason why the GPU doesn't do more - PerfCap Reason

with HW Monitor you can check the usage - Utilization

run the game, even the Benchmark and then you will see if your CPU is fully used or your GPU is in idle

OR

you just google what your GPU could do in 1440p with max settings in that game. Next thing is they normally test those games with the top of the line CPUs (yours is not one of those). If it has the same FPS you will know it is your GPU, otherwise it should be CPU
