So I wanted to have my processor delidded (I7). I removed it and put my old I5 in so I could keep using the pc. It suddenly didn't start. The mobo (z97 mpower max) can be turned on via a button and it turns on GPU. But there is no signal so I assume it's still a cpu problem. At first I thought maybe the I5 was broken. But now with the I7 it also doesn't work.

I reset cmos, replugged the power cable to the CPU. Reseated RAM. All to no avail. I checked the pins in the socket, they don't seem to have any bent ones. Reseated the CPU 3 times.

What else could it be? Motherboard also looks fine, no damage or cooling paste on the components.

Remove the gpu first. Plug in the hdmi cable to the morherboard then reset bios again with battery out for 10 mins. Let it boot with the IGPU then shutdown. Then reinsert the GPU. But this happend to me last week by doing a bad overclock. Give it a try. And let me know how you get on.

Alright I'm gonna work in it in a couple hours again. I'll also check the pins with a magnifier and replug all the cables on the other end. I only did the mobo side CPU cable.

I've made some pictures of my cpu and socket. As you can see the cpu has "smudges" on it. But when I try to clean it with Isoprop and microfiber cloth is doesn't clean up. Looking under the magnifier I don't see anything so don't know what it is.

In the socket it looks like one of the pins is bent, but it's super hard to see. Column 4, row 6 on the left side of the socket. Don't know if that's the culprit and don't know of I should try to fix it myself or let a pc shop do it.

I gave the pin a slight nudge with a screwdriver from a watchmaker set. It realigned but didn't fix the problem.

Alright so it didn't work. I don't have any signal so I'm assuming it's not booting. The hunt for the bent pins continues I suppose.
