CPU Upgrade

LewisJB

Hi all,

Im looking at upgrading my CPU. I currently have a Ryzen 5 1600 seated in a Gigabyte AX370 gaming k-3 MOBO. Not sure what would be a good upgrade. I game at 1080p 144hz with a 5700XT. Any advice appreciated.

No upgrade then.  5600x is $300 and a motherboard for it will be over $100.

Feel?  Let's use actual numbers.  What FPS are you getting?

I like the look of that. Would a MOBO upgrade really be worth it? Isn't AMD going to require a new MOBO for 6th gen or is there one more year left for AM4?

Some games like RDR2 I struggle to get 85+ on medium-high settings with the odd setting on ultra. Games like shooters I can get the higher fps but requires a loss in visuals. Obviously in lighter games such as rocket league im pegged at 144 all the time, its mainly the AAA titles that I struggle with

No it wouldn't make any sense to change mobo if you choose to upgrade to 3600. May be decent enough, then  you can upgrade again if you need to, when AM5 is out and get a B666

The 3600 has been the CPU I have looked at the most for an upgrade. Would the difference between the 1600 and 3600 be noticeable for 1080p 144hz?

6000 series ryzen will be on a new socket, AM4 is finished with 5000 series. Since your motherboard can only go up to 3000 series, the 3600 is a good pick.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Judging by that video for the most part there is about a 10-30 fps difference in most titles with a few exceptions. That definitely seems worth it to me.

Yes it seem very realistic. Yes and it's always nice with new toys. + You can sell the old one.

Save your money for a whole system upgrade at a later date. Your motherboard isn't good enough to just pop in a 5600x. Also at 1080p, it just isn't necessary. You have a good match of parts.

Yep thats always the bonus. If im to sell my 1600 for about £50-£60 the 3600 would only theoretically cost me £120-£130 which is a very good deal imo

So sell your 1600 for 60, get the 3600, and then wait till early 2022 (when zen 4 releases), and buy a 6500x.
