Help choose PSU for pc

My current PC is using 550w excluding the keyboard mouse monitor and headset. I read somewhere that for the power supply to be most efficient you'd have to use 50% of it, for example a 425w pc should use a 850w power supply, is this true? should I spend more money on a 1000w power supply or no?

No, you shouldn't spend more money on a 1000W PSU unless you care about saving a couple of penies per year.

Well depends on your wallet sir. If it's made out of leather then go ahead. If it's made out of cloth then 850w is also enough
