Yeah it is mounted in the case. That is something else I didn't think to check on is that all of the standoffs are mounted correctly. I will try running it on just the mobo box as another test.

yes do that. if it runs there soemthign is short circuiting your mobo in the case.

Hi All,

Yesterday my new Asus Tuf B550 Gaming Plus mobo showed up and I don't think it is getting power from the PSU. I bridged pins 4 + 5 on the MB power connector and the PSU fan spins so I am under the impression that it is fine and not the issue. The parts I was swapping into it work when plugged into their old mobo with no issue.

Now to give some context I am swapping a 1700x into it which I know isn't compatible with a B550 mobo, but the system should still at the very least power on right? I haven't ever put an incompatible CPU in a motherboard before and I have no clue if it not turning on at all is the intended behavior. I have tried both shorting the power switch pins, as well as actually hooking up the power button and still nothing. I am out of ideas :(

I'd guess the board isn't posting purely since it doesn't have a compatible CPU, since the layout of the BIOS memory is different on B550 vs older chipsets.

That's where my assumption is too. The only thing that has a doubt in my mind about it is that it doesn't seem to be powering on at all. No fan spin from the PSU, no case fans moving, just crickets.

Even when the mobo is not on it should lighten up when psu is switched on.

do you have ram on?

It should also lighten up even if it has cpu that it does not support.

Yep, ram was also installed.

is the mobo mounted in the case?f it is check that it does not touch the case and all the standoffs are installed correctly. If it is not in the case put the mobo on non ocnductive thing. like news paper for example.

Thanks for all the help. I took it out and tested it on the box but still nothing. I just had Amazon swap it and the replacement board is working as intended. I guess the other one was just DOA.
