I asked people on this forum for a cheap PC build that can handle the new set of AMD GPU's and CPU's, specifically the AMD 6800XT GPU and the Ryzen 7 5800X CPU. A user responded with this build, however when I viewed it there were multiple warnings that will be listed below. My question is even with the errors will this computer build work just fine? If not tell me what to change to make it work please. Thanks!image_2020-11-09_114340.thumb.png.1981643540bd1162bd0261bda44a2a5a.png

Overall it is fine, but as it says in the error, you might need to update the BIOS of this motherboard.

Ryzen 5000 series CPUs do not work with current motherboards out of the box yet. A lot of motherboards have been on store shelfs before the release of Ryzen 5000 CPUs and therefor need a BIOS update first, before they can support the new CPUs. On most boards you will need an older CPU to update the BIOS. Some boards can peform the BIOS update without a CPU.

The other errors don't necessarily matter.

It is important to note that your front panel USB C port might not work and that you might need to check into which SATA port you can plug your harddrive into, as two are disabled because of the M.2 SSD, but only if the M.2 SSD is plugged into the second M.2 slot. That is usually the one at the bottom of the motherboard. You can find that information in the motherboard's manual.

wait for Ryzen 5000 ready sticker to appear on the motherboards. that means you can use the 5800x wihtout the bios updtae.

So i should wait for a new motherboard to come out? Im sorry if that is false as i am kind of new to building computers.

No problemo!

You got a few options:

  1. Buy a motherboard that supports BIOS updates without a CPU and do the BIOS update yourself.
  2. Buy this motherboard and get a friend with a CPU or a PC shop to do the update for you.
  3. Buy an older CPU instead, that doesn't require a BIOS update. (Doesn't really make sense)
  4. Wait for this motherboard to come out with a current BIOS version. (They might put stickers on it or release a seperate version of it that says that it is ready for 5000 CPUs)

To be honest I suggest either option 1 or 2. The others are somewhat silly, but I thought I'd mention them anyway.

The Gigabyte B550M Aourus Elite for example has a feature to update the BIOS without a CPU or RAM installed:

Alright so im just going to wait for the motherboards to start supporting it then get one! It is important to note that i will be using this for VR as well and was wondering if i need to change anything else, as my Rift S requires a usb 3.0 port to function.

EDIT: The reason why i am waiting is because im not buying the computer right away. I am saving up money to make the build on a later date.
