Overclocking an ancient CPU

Go to solution Solved by octester,

I found the oc options in the bios, increased the clock by 10, and now XTU shows it doesn't drop bellog 3Ghz

Well there's a really old thread about a very similar situation here:

doesn't seem conclusive but the BIOS version appeared to be a factor. In your BIOS, check out the settings available to you.

Also, Intel XTU might be a valid OC option if the BIOS is too locked down. It's free, after all.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I was wondering if there's a way to overclock my core i7 860.

My motherboard is an Asus P7H55-M LX.

I've used that board its pretty barebones and likely truly only supports 65w CPU and below with its VRM and Board Weaknesses.

Likely best for simple tasks and office uses this lowend motherboard not for Gamers who squeeze Boards for more.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
