Hi. Recently when i have tried to play my games at high settings my computer freezes. Initially i thought it was a power supply issue but when my computer freezes audio still plays from my game and whatever youtube video is playing in the background. I do have a unknown/no name power supply but from what ive seen on youtube whenever there is a power supply wattage issue the computer usually shuts down. Is there a way to check graphics card health or could it still be my power supply?

Specs:
Ryzen 5 2600

B450 Aorus M
Aorus RX570 4GB
16GB Crucial RAM (3200Mhz, 2666MHz)
240GB BX500
3 HDD's
GTR 450W Power Supply

Only with stress tests....

That requires a minimum of a 450 watt PSU, nevermind all the other parts of your system.

I'd start with a better PSU in the 600 watt range

Well it might be, but suspect number 1 is the PSU. Change that out, plays some games, see what happens. Report back your findings.

Hi. My new power supply is hooked up but still same issue. Do you think different ram speed/voltage be causing the freezes?

Possibly, reset BIOS to factory default (that is, turn off any OCing or XMP) and test again.

firstly stress your pc without the Rx card you have to make sure it isn't something else. Try lowering the clock speed and memory clock with msi afterburner , and test if it happens again if it does also try and test the card in another system before trying the following , lower power limit to induce a perfcap and check if it still does it. Test the card with different games as well and turn on vsync or limit fps to 60, it might be a game specific issue  .... also monitor the temps you are getting....  gaming on higher settings = More power which in turn increases vrm temperature , and core temps , to discern some temperature issues set a game to low settings unlimited fps vsync off with textures and resolution to highest settings - if it freezes your cards memory is getting to hot or is degrading so lower the memory clock and test again if its still freezing its getting hot , make sure to replace thermal pads in that case , for the second test try increasing settings to higher settings to stress gpu and monitor gpu usage aswell as temperature in rivatuner/Msi afterburner overlay if gpu is getting hot replace thermal paste and increase gpu fan curve if its not to hot but still freezes the gpu might not be able to achieve the clock speed at its current voltage , so downclock the card slightly . I f that doesn't work try flashing the cards vbios and reinstalling drivers . I had a biostar rx 570 that had a way to high gpu max temp to fan curve ratio of 109 c and it ran pretty hot at 90 c 100% fans speed even after replacing tim / thermal pads  - I flashed the gpu to another Shapphire rx 570 cards vbios and it worked with lower temp limits so it runs safer temps no issue with negligible perf loss. Good luck ....

Ok, with the system (BIOS) set to default, the issue still happens within games, so..

let's run a stress-test on the various parts of your system, see if we can pinpoint issues.

For the RAM, run memtest86

https://www.memtest86.com/

That may take several hours, so be patient.

For the CPU, there are several options:

https://www.ocbase.com/

https://www.mersenne.org/download/

Make sure you are only hitting the CPU with these.

For the GPU:

https://geeks3d.com/furmark/

https://benchmark.unigine.com/heaven (this one is popular here)

Run these, one at a time, see what happens, report back.

Thanks i will try all of that soon but the freezing happens when i ran any game at high and most games at low. I thought it might have been a speed/voltage issue with the different ram sticks so i took one of them out and it was fine for a day but the next day it froze with only the one ram stick. But the weird thing is that when my computer freezes i cant alt tab or contron alt delete or anything like that but the audio from my game keeps playing. Could the driver for my chipset be conflicting with my bios version or do you think it could still be gpu related?

When freezing issue. The first thing I do.

- Reformat my Computer to different OS like Linux. Then Watch Stream, If it does Freeze its either HD/GPU/RAM.. I never bother with PSU because I do have 3 spare 😮

I replaced my psu a few days ago and same issue. will this work through the "try ubuntu" option off the usb because backing up data and reinstalling os's is very time consuming

Do you have a program that allows you to check your GPU temps? If they're high, then you probably will need to remove the card, really really dust out the heatsink, then remove the heatsink and clean the GPU die and cold plate on the heatsink, and apply new thermal paste, and reassemble the card.
