Don't think it would be worth going TR right now that the 5950X and its performance numbers are out. TR straight up adds ~$1.5K to a build due to both the high CPU price and extremely expensive motherboards, but have a look at the benchmark videos that came out yesterday, some have TRs in comparison.

I'm also planning a new build and have been hesitating between the 2 but now it doesn't make much sense to me to go TR until those get a refresh as well.

A 5950X and mobo will run you about $1K, a 3970X and mobo would cost about 2.5 times that for about 30% more performance.

Yes I saw those videos. I'm just too green to really know what hardware to use. Can you put me a parts list together using the 5950x? I want a fast CPU that won't slow down when I'm running a lot of software. Piosolver can take some time without the right setup. And with 7 kids time is valuable.

Hello all,

I hope this is a fun one for y'all. Here we go....

1. My build budget is 4,000 U.S dollars and may be willing to spend 25% more if need be, but I would love saving money if I can.

2. I would like to build a workstation so I can:

  • Run a web based study group using Piosolver, Poker Tracker4 (utilizes postgresql), Fopzilla pro, Word, Excel, some web based training videos, and Skype or equivalent all at the same time

   Piosolver system requirement  https://www.piosolver.com/pages/technical-details

   Poker Tracker system requirement https://www.pokertracker.com/faq/PT4#Minimum_Requirements

  • Learn to create content for platforms such as YouTube using audio, video, and photo editing software
  • Streaming at some point
  • Watch 4k or better movies
  • Web browsing

3&4. Monitors and peripherals will not come out of budget, but I will be using thee 27inch 4k monitors. I also need a Windows 10 pro license, 2019 Office suite, and Access for work.

5. I’m upgrading because all the best poker study software is on a pc and I currently use a late 2015 iMac. I know I could use Bootcamp or Parallels to run Piosolver but I tried the free version and it sucked. Three hours to run one hand is unacceptable to me! Therefore I think I want to use a AMD Treadripper and at least 64 gigs of RAM for this build unless y'all change my mind for this build everything else though is up in the air.

A couple of thoughts that may help are 1, creating content is something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile and I really don’t know that much about it yet other than system requirement for some of the software will need to be on steroids if I don’t want to lose my effing mind as I hate a slow computer. 2, This will be my first build and would prefer to stay away from over clocking & water cooling if that’s even plausible. 3, I do not play games as of right now, but would love to update this build at a later date to play GT4 and run a flight simulator if at all possible. 4, RGB is cool but not required. 5, Whatever case I need to keep this build cool is fine with me. Looks cost money and if it isn’t in the budget sobeit.

Thanks,

Pokerdude

Wait until the end of the month until AMD GPUs are released. Then I would make a new thread. November 18th is the release of the new AMD Graphics cards.

Thanks, but I know this isn't what I want as it barely meets some of the system requirements for some of the software I will be running. I appreciate your feedback though.

This was meant for a mother post, didn’t mean to be rude, sorry
