Help with Laptop RAM

Go to solution Solved by KangUsapEmenq,

It's kind of true, but your current memory, both of it, are actually 1600 MHz. Dual-channeling halves the speed and why it's 800 MHz on CPU-Z and why it's twice on the Task Manager, here it is why. I actually curious either why would it happen so, glad to actually know by stumbling to the topic lol.

Good day tech gurus of LTT, I have a few questions regarding RAM. I have an old laptop and am thinking of upgrading the RAM. I'll have screenshots attached below from CPU-Z, etc.

I am thinking of upgrading my RAM to 16 GB. As you can see, my everyday workflow with google chrome and a few other programs open is already taking up most of the RAM. What I would like to know is the speed/frequency of the RAM.

On Task Manager, it says my RAM is 1600 Mhz, but on CPU-Z, it says each RAM is 800 Mhz, so does that mean the total speed is 800 x 2 = 1600? And if this is the case, can I buy 2 x 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM sticks and this will increase my total speed to 3200 Mhz?

Thank you in advance.

Kinda. The 2 RAM sticks are DDR meaning Dual Rank so 800x2 would be 1600mhz but that does not add across 2 RAM sticks.

The total speed will not change.

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

I see, I get the picture now. So basically I will only need to upgrade 1 stick. That will save me money. Thank you for the info.
