Is a higher end USB sound card or dac just as good as a pcie sound card?

What about the latency?

Almost no difference. Just don't get a 30 dollar internal soundcard. Never know how bad the shielding is.

I was just thinking If I install windows 7 on a a b550 or x570 I probably won't get onboard audio support of any kind and I don't want to use the not so great front port audio.

So I want a good audio experience for my headphones. I've tried good audio and I like it a lot better than standard audio.

What sound cards have you looked at so far? What is your budget?

usb solutions are in general better cvalue if you dont care about software as they tend to sound better for cheaper

Can be true. But some parts are more premium and software isn't generally more expensive.

its the general truth to a point especially ikf your looking at higher end pcie soundcards. vs an external solution the only reason a person should consider a internal one IMO is if they need a particualar piece of software to go along wiht it otherwise you can definitely get something cheaper for better and more specific to a particular use case for that individual as soundcards seem to try to do everything and usually cant accomplish great results in all of it but will do great in some.

I'm forced to use Windows 7 at work and trust me when I say Win 10 is far more responsive and just works a bunch better.
I have an old laptop that refused to run Win 10 well, with the tracker blockers and an SSD it's bloody fast, works wonderfully.

I strongly suggest just using Win 10.

I was talking about soundcards in general. Not just PCIE. Maybe I didn't express that too good in my posts.
