Skip AM3, go straight for an AM4 system. Means a new mainboard, RAM and proc, but so much better then an AM3 system, especially for gaming/streaming.

They can't "skip" it, they already have it. They are asking which CPU would be the best upgrade within the same platform.

Honestly OP...  AM3 CPUs are not what I would recommend to anybody and you'd probably be better off upgrading everything as a whole. Doesn't help that this was the generation that made me HATE AMD with a passion, with their flipping Hyper Transport Sync Floor error.

That said, considering you have a single core CPU, literally any other AM3 would be an upgrade for you. Depending on your motherboard, the "best" you could do are the :

AMD Phenom™ II X6 1100T at 125W  (cost about the same as a Ryzen 1700x on ebay, wtf...)

AMD Phenom™ II X6 1065T at 95W (about US$70 on ebay)

AMD Phenom™ II X4 910e at 65W (US$50~55)

AMD Athlon™ II X4 615e at 45W (US$25~30. Same wattage as your current CPU, this would be the "safest" upgrade, as far as reusing everything else, including the PSU)

But, again, this depend on your motherboard, might need to update the bios, too.

Whether or not you can stream and game at the same time, that I wouldn't know.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

motherboard and chipset would be a good thing to know.

look for phenom ii x4 ... about any of them will be better than what you have ... check the compatibility before buying tho.

I miss this platform actually. Had a few processors. I think the X6 1090T/1100T was the best from Phenom II aside from the monster X4 980BE.

The FX processors (AM3+) will run up to 8 cores. The coolest and probably cheapest running FX processor would be the 8300. However for a little more powerful FX chip, the 8370E had good steppings and clock speeds.

But like said by many above, knowing the make and model of the board will help tremendously.
