I would just mine with both the 290xs. The 7970 would just make the 290xs even hotter.

that's going to be enough heat to power three homes and require a pretty hefty PSU though.

Alright thanks, but if both r9 290x is in crossfire, could I connect 3-5 monitors in eyefinity and still mine?

Yep.

and Yep, though the VRMs may get hotter than with whatever cooler you have now (except stock :P )
