For those who don't know, FTB is a collection of Minecraft modpacks and we will be running one of these modpacks. There will be a max of 6 people online on a limited map (3000 by 3000). The map will also be pre-generated to reduce lag. We will, however, generally all be in different locations. Motherboard is free with the CPU.

Will this suffice? Planning on running the server on linux as well. SSD is purely for the OS and world file and won't be used for anything else.

As @ said, if it's Bukkit, you want more single core. (Intel)

And go with 2x4gb of 1600mhz ram for 8gb :D

Case: Lian Li PC011-D - CPU: 3900x - GPU: 2080ti Reference - Mobo: Gigabyte - Ram: Corsair 4x16gb 3200MHz - SSD: 2TB Samsung Evo NVME

grab 8gb of ram

Why? It's only 6 players. It would consume nowhere near 8 gigs. Maybe 6 gigs, though...

Depends if you'r running Spigot or Bukkit. If you'r using Bukkit you want all the single core performance you can get.

I hadn't thought of what I wanted to run it on. I have more experience in bukkit, but what difference does that make? Does bukkit not utilize more than 1 core?

Bukkit is single core only. So essentially a Haswell i3 would be a better option.

Pretty sure the standard server application uses more than 1 core, though. I'm only planning on having close friends on it, so management isn't an issue since I trust everyone. Would I be better off with just the standard FTB server then? Since an i3 is significantly more expensive.

more ram thats all you need

I would get 8GB of RAM to be on the safe side.  I have seen my MC servers eat up 4GBs.

What makes you think a 6 person server needs 8 gigs? Any of ya'll have experience in running an FTB server? Just want to know before I throw more money down.

I host currently have 224 people on my servers. You shouldnt need 8Gb but if it's only a little bit more I would get it.

Thanks for the input, but I'd rather keep the SSD and form factor for world loading speed and the ability to stash it somewhere out of sight. The only thing you really improved was the ram, and I can fit 8 gigs in with my build if I up the budget $30.

I've run a vanilla bucket server, that demanded more than 4 with like 6 people. But that's up to you

The main thing I would change, would be getting an i3.

Bukkit runs more on the performance of single cores, meaning an intel CPU will take the lead by a lot.

I think it ends up using Two cores, which would still favor Intel.

depends how crazy you and you friends want to get on my server im hosting at home they use about 67% cpu useage across 6 cores and 5.2gb of ram is used when everybody is on.

personaly i found that a duel core was to weak and our TPS fell threw the floor

It won't matter with minecraft. The SSD will only help with boot times and load times. It won't matter.

I would recommend getting a better power efficient psu, because since it is a server it is going to be on 90% of the time. Just throwing it out there.

There's not many mATX PSUs, though. And the max power usage of this thing is 134w. So even if it was at max usage 24 hours a day, which it would definitely not be, it would consume about 35 cents of electricity.
