Recently discovered random crashing while gaming. Thought it was the game or Windows version 2004.

However, after attempting to run Cinebench R20, the system crashes (reboot to POST) each time the render starts.

Before crashing, I noticed a temp of around 74C on HWINFO64 and Ryzen Master.

AMD Ryzen Balanced Power Plan.

Computer Type: Custom Build

CPU:  Ryzen 7 3700X @ Stock. (PBO enabled) + AIO

Motherboard: ASUS X570 TUF Gaming WIFI

GPU: RTX 2080 Super

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600C18 (2x8)

PSU: Cooler Master MW750

Operating System: Windows 10 Ver. 2004.

GPU Drivers: GeForce 456.55

Chipset Drivers: AMD 2.07.14.327

BIOS: ASUS 2607 (AGESA combo V2 PI [1.0.8.0])

**Windows Event Viewer Error**:

Source: Kernel-Power. Event ID: 41. Task Category: (63)

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

**Windows Reliability Report:** "The previous system shutdown at 12:37:36 AM on ‎10/‎16/‎2020 was unexpected."

Did a CMOS reset and ran R20 on default settings. All runs passed on All/Single core with max temp of around 88C.

With PBO enabled, still all runs passed.

With XMP (DOCP) enabled, system crashes (POST) shortly after R20 starts rendering.

Ran Windows MemDiag and Memtest86 with XMP on and off and all tests passed.

Almost running out of ideas. The system has been running with XMP enabled since built (about a year).

EDIT: Troubleshooting

Clear CMOS: R20 Passed

PBO On + XMP Off: R20 Passed

PBO On + XMP On: R20 Failed

PBO Off + XMP Off: R20 Passed

PBO Off + XMP Off (Manual XMP timings): R20 Failed

Have you tried increasing your memory voltage a bit? If it is at 1.35, set it to 1.45 and keep XMP on. I had a kit of G.Skill 3600MHz memory that was only stable at 1.45v instead of 1.35v.

EDIT: this was done with a Ryzen 7 3700x and Asus Prime X570 Pro motherboard with G.Skill TridentZ Neo 3600MHz kit.

I have not actually. I’ve just had a thought of turning off XMP and manually setting the timings.

I’ll try your suggestion as well.

Could it be fair to assume a RAM/XMP issue? Or would it be something to do with FCLK (Infinity fabric) with XMP on?

It's funny, a friend of mine had pretty much the same issues with a Ryzen 2700.

Might be that your memory chips are not the "Ryzen Friendly" type.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

They're on the QVL for the mobo. They we’re running fine until just yesterday weirdly enough.

My suggestion would be to disable PBO and try with XMP on. If not, try manually setting the timings for your ram.

Thats one of the combinations I havent done yet. Thanks. Worth a shot

Oh so not that issue then. Any other changes you think might have affected things?

Honestly, nothing has changed since I’ve built it bout a year ago.

All i can think of is it did a Windows Update the night before, then the crashes started happening while gaming. Thought it might be a bug with the game, decided to run R20 to be sure. And here I am now. :/

maybe because of windows.

update bios if not up to date.

try to increase SOC voltage to 1.1 and see if xmp becomes stable

Wont be the first time WU breaks something.

BIOS is the latest available.

SOC Voltage is already at 1.1.

Ok, I've run a couple of stress tests with the results.

PBO OFF + XMP OFF: Passed

PBO ON + XMP OFF: Passed

PBO ON + XMP ON: Failed

PBO OFF + XMP ON: Failed

PBO ON + XMP OFF (Manual timings): Failed

PBO + XMP ON

Stick A Slot 4: Failed

Stick A Slot 2: Failed

Stick B Slot 4: Failed

Stick B Slot 2: Failed

Does it seem like bad RAM?

Running Memtest86 again to be sure.

Messing with timings and power/re-seating my RAM helped with me. I had the same crashing issue, lucky for me though my MoBo was telling me RAM was the issue.

Try downclocking one step. My 3200 kit is only stable at 3000 MHz

Thats the thing, I’ve reseated the Modules, individually tested them in different slots.

Mobo doesnt show any diagnostic lights when crashing.

Did you try to RMA them? Mine was running fine at 3600 for a year. Possible for sudden instability like that?
