Delidding Haswell

Just wondering if anyone on this forum has delidded their Haswell CPU and what their results were.

I don't own a Haswell CPU (and probably never will) but it seems to be a case of a 15c temp drop generally, however some of the waterblocks designed for direct die cooling (EK has one) people were getting much better results.

The temperature drop can be anywhere from 10-20c. Delidding is really only useful if you are planning on doing some serious overclocking.

I delidded my 4770k a few weeks ago and got huge temp drop. Did it using vice method which was quick but also scary.

I would rather keep my warranty

you would just glue it back together and send it back, they would never know.

i had a while ago and since doing the same to my ivy CPU, it did the same as

lowering the temps and making them a bit more uniformed. single core

overclocking showed a lot of difference in temperatures. so a de-lid was needed.

dropped the overall about 12°, and the spread amongst cores was 18° now 8°.

i used the hammer/vise method (a lot safer than using the knife/razorblade method)

easy enough. only booger is that mounting the CPU vertical is a lot harder than

horizontal. the CPU heat spreader can slip around, but once the socket latch is

done, no movement.

can use 3M weather strip adhesive (sparingly) to reattach the heat spreader.

Put it in a vice. Hit it with a chunk of wood. Took the crap thermal paste off. Put Arctic 5 on. Now runs 10 degrees cooler.

other then that there's not much I can say
