hey, right now i'm currently rocking a ryzen 5 3600x and an msi gaming x 1660. i'm being bottlenecked because when i go to play a game like fortnite my cpu is 100% utilisation and my gpu is only sitting around 50%.

Yep.  Dig it.

Honestly it's more likely that it would be bottlenecked the other way. The 3600 can handle a 2060S easily.

The CPU/GPU utilization also depends a lot on the game itself.

so i should maybe just upgrade both components? i'm thinking of buying a 3070 and a 3800x but i only have an 80+ 700w psu so i'm kinda lost rn

oh wow, so i should upgrade to like a 2070s/3070? i feel like i'm held back with 6 cores and 12 threads considering i'm going to start full time streaming soon and i wanna hit that sweet 165fps whilst doing so.

You should only upgrade the graphics card. For most games, that will be the bottleneck. A 3600x can easily handle a 3070. Although good luck getting one because bots. You should look at a 2080, 2080 super or 2080 TI once prices go down further.

i kinda wanna upgrade to a 3700x or a 10700k too, and upgrade to maybe a 3070 or 3080. but the only thing holding me back is my psu, it's only 700w 80+ and i don't really trust it, but i don't wanna spend a hundred on a power supply

Why would you upgrade from a 3600x to a 3700x?  Sideways move at best.

Fortnite won't need more than a 3070, if even that.  3080 is way overkill.

Btw, spending a hundred on a power supply is what you do when you buy $600 - 800 GPUs 😜

Or do you buy cheap tires on good cars?  PSU and tires = integral.

i'm not ONLY going to be playing fortnite lmao, i'm gonna be playing cold war at 144fps so it will be pretty hard to run on medium to high settings on my current rig. i wanna upgrade my computer fully, and maybe to 32gb of ram too. i'm just not too sure if i wanna fully commit yet

Trust me, your 1660 is what's holding you back. Many people have used that CPU with graphics cards exponentially better than the 1660.

Here's a comparison between the 1660 and the 2070: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2070-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660/4029vs4038

Although, even the 2070 will be a bit weak. Here's with the 3080:

 https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3080-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660/4080vs4038

The 1660 is a budget end card. You should absolutely replace that.

32gb of ram will make no difference at all. 16 is more than all you need for gaming. I have 32 and I've never ever seen it gone past 30 percent usage.

Fornite will never use all 12 threads on the 3600x. Something wrong with your Windoze.
