Individual sticks of RAM in combination with TRX40

Go to solution Solved by Praesi,

Yes it will work.

But as far is i know, TR only supports 2666mhz with 8x32 GB

Everything above has to be reached via overclocking and there is no quarantee it will work above that timing.

Hello LTT Forums,

I recently bought a ROG Zenith II motherboard because I wish to build myself a Threadripper 3000 (or 5000 depending on when it launches) workstation. My workloads are extremely RAM heavy thus I am looking to put in at least 128 GB ram, preferably 256GB (given my TRX40 Supports it). From my knowledge and by scouting around, I know that one can mix multiple ram sticks or kits, as long as they're preferably the same timings, and speed.

I stumbled on this: https://www.amazon.com/Viper-Steel-DDR4-32GB-Module/dp/B0865SG2SW/

It is a single 32 GB stick, 3600MHZ, CL18. My thought process is to buy 8 of them to populate all ram slots on my board. I believe this should be possible if I buy the exact same model in this link 8 times, to create a big 256GB "ram pool".

Because of how expensive this will end up being, and because I rather want to be safe than sorry, I want to double check with the community if this will work and if I can maintain 3600Mhz  with these timings given all sticks support it.

Some final notes, I don't live in the US, and here my choices are very limited. The link I sent is the exact same ram stick on Amazon.com. I cannot purchase from there. I don't have a lot of choice for ram. It's either this, or I fall back to 128GB ram (two kits of 64gb). I wish I had the choice of buying a single 256 or 128gb kit, but I don't unfortunately.. So, therefor, any alternative ram kits wouldn't really help me, I'm more so curious if this will work or not. I'll step down to 128gb if it won't.

Thanks in advance for answering my question.

Ah, nice! I was unaware of that limitation. Since capacity is much more important to me, I think I'll make the jump and buy 8 sticks. Thanks so much for answering my question.
