I've put my old motherboard, cpu and fan which are all attached on ebay and I'm thinking it wasn't the wisest of decisions. I don't know how I'm supposed to send it now, it still has the fan attached to it so its not easy to package it up and its a fairly big fan.

I can put it in a box but what do I put around it?

why dont you just take off the fan, as it is pretty easy to mount a fan back on??

The fan looks connected to the cpu and paste area so I can't remove the fan.

You really can. There are a few YouTube videos of the installation of the unit, just reverse the process.

(Generally it's remove fans, remove screws, lift cooler off. - giving a small twist to the cooler as you pull it off can help if the thermal paste is holding it tight)
