Hello!

This is my first time posting, so excuse me if I don't know how things are done over here.

My current setup is a workstation with Linux as my main work OS where I virtualize Windows for gaming. The card I currently use for Linux is a R9 280x and the Windows VM has it's own GTX 1080. Now that setup was fine as I only watch YouTube and do programming work on Linux while doing GPU intensive stuff on the VM.

Now, things have changed. I am now in need of a better GPU for Linux. AMD is much preferable as I intend to run macOS on the machine aswell and driver collision when virtualizing is minimized. The reason I need an upgrade is that I have gotten 3x 4K monitors now instead of a 3x 1080P monitor setup. The R9 simply cannot handle even two 4K monitors and it can't even do 3 since it only has one HDMI, one DisplayPort and then DVI. In addition, I intend to do more GPU intensive work on Linux now (still not gaming), but the main driver is to get smooth 3x 4K 60FPS.

My question for you guys is what GPU to pick from the AMD lineup. It's just so hard to find what GPU I need that isn't gaming related. It just has to drive 3x 4K displays (maybe a 4th on the rare occasion). Will a 5500 XT cut it?

Thanks in advance!

Get a used rx 470 and call it good. Cheap card will do what you need do get the one with the ports you need.

I interpret this as basically: "Any modern GPU can drive it". Is that correct? In that case the 5500 XT would be my pick as I still need that macOS compatibility as far in the future as I can which means a RX 470 would be a poor pick.

Yeah pretty much any modern gpu that has the ports and is not bios locked to display that many screens is good to go.

A 5500xt, or even a non xt variant of the current AMD lineup will work, just make sure it has enough ports
