you probably wont notice too much of a difference. how do you know its going up to only 72 hz?

This is it. I'm just using the hdmi cable that came with the package

And what GPU are you using? If you're using an Nvidia GPU, you can set a custom resolution and refresh rate in the Nvidia Control Panel.
