Budget (including currency): ~$3000;

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: For the most part FPS games (csgo, r6 valorant) but I also want to be able to run any single player game at high graphics with no problems. I also want to be able to stream from this PC and do video editing. I do have my current computer though that I will make into my streaming pc later down the line.

Monitors: (This isn't included in the $3000 budget but if you have suggestions, that would help) I prefer a dual monitor setup and want to be going to a 1440p 240hz monitor but with 4k and 360hz becoming more popular I want this build to be able to last into that shift.

Peripherals: None needed

Currently have: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/charmander170/saved/sR2rD3

What I am wanting:

GPU: New generation GPU; so either 3080 or whatever AMD has to offer that beats that (put this at around $700?)

CPU: Waiting for Zen 3 and will buy from that (say it comes a little bit higher than last gen soooo $350-$400?)

Cooling: Probably just an air cooler; nothing too fancy. I know that air cooling preforms basically the same, if not better than water cooling so it comes to cost and aesthetics. Which would you suggest?

RAM: Probably 32 GB DDR4-3600; Maybe DDR4-4000

MOBO: I've been suggested the B550 Tomahawk but that was for a lower budget; M.2 support; What MOBO should I be trying to get for this coming generation of CPUs; I also want high modularity (right word?) for many fans and pretty rgb colors; This will be for a full sized case; support for wifi if possible

Storage: Right now I am running pretty low on solid state storage and am at about half on hard drive; I know I don't currently have a lot of storage but with moving into more video editing and with games getting bigger and bigger, I don't want to have it be an issue. I probably should upgrade to a terabyte SSD M.2 and a couple terabyte Hard drive. Just to overkill it but if you think I'd be fine with just a terabyte SSD then tell me

PSU: Needs to support everything and not blow up :) I really dont have more specification than that since the watt use from the new AMD cpus and gpus is not set in stone yet; Probably the Corsair 750W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Power Supply but I may need more power; I really don't know

Case: I'd like to upgrade to a full tower case in order to gain the most amount of room for cooling as well as enough room for everything to fit super comfortably and look nice. I like on my current case that it has a window. Also the ability to put in more fans later if I need more air flow then that would be good to accommodate. I have been looking at the be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Orange rev.2 as a case because it seems to have quite a few unique features. It has been hard to find much variety in full tower cases, but I may just be looking in the wrong places.

Extras: This doesn't have to be included in the budget buuuut I do want to be putting more fans into this build (rgb colors because.... pretty) so if you have suggestions for these that would be great.

Aaaand I believe that's it. If I missed anything or if you have questions, I'll be on top of the comments and will get back to you quickly. Thank you for any time you spend on this. I am just still new to PC building so when I tried to start researching parts again, I got lost and so I came here for help. I want this build to be the build that I can just upgrade parts into as I can, that's why I want to go full sized with this build just to future proof myself. I will probably be buying the parts in batches as I can or when they are on sales since the end of the year is coming. I just want a really good PC that I don't have to worry about frames too much or have to worry that it is too hot or loud. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

I used the meshify c for the case, since it has far superior airflow to any other case.  ( i did get the clear side pannel one)

I did do 3200mhz cl16, which is below the ryzen sweet spot (3600 cl16) for the corsair rgb, so you would only need 1 piece of software, but I can go for 3600 with different software, if you are ok with two pieces of software.

I put a 3950x, but get the zen 3 equivalent ( I believe it will be called the 5950x)

I put on the TUF 3080, since the strix one, well, isnt on pc part picker. that would put you 100$ over budget also.

Storage may look like a mess, but I thought you could do raid 5, where you get 3x the write, with no read gain. You can lose one drive, yet still have all of the drives work fine. This means the 4tb total is lowered to 3tb. The pcie gen 4 ssd could be used for games you play the most, with the 3tb raid 5 drives as mass storage. or you could throw in a 4tb hdd if you wanted, instead of one of the sata ssds.

Cosair aio, with 4 extra 120mm fans, so you have all matching fans for the case (theres 3 front, 3 top, and 1 back fan mount)

The psu is the best psu (that I know of), and is a a on the teir list

Mobo is one of the highest quality b550, since x570 really not worth it, unless you want more than one pcie gen 4 drive.

I hope you enjoy your new build! If you have any questions, please either do @HelpfulTechWizard or quote (and snip the contents, so its not a mess) this post so I get a notification.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

  • So for the case; I was thinking of going for a full tower build for this computer since it makes for a lot more future proofing and for better airflow, at least what I know about cases. Which isn't much. Is there a full tower case that you'd suggest or do you think this mid tower would be better than a full tower case?

  • I would rather have 2 pieces of software than having hindered performance. We could take the AIO out for a comparable air cooler since I like both water coolers and air coolers and really just want to focus on best performance for this build (frames, temps, noise) rather than prioritizing some small aesthetic

Would you change the AIO to an air cooler if there are ones that perform better? Or is it fully the aesthetic of having an AIO?

Thanks for the build idea! I think it all looks pretty good for what I am wanting. Right now I am a little concerned on the case I am getting. Is there another full tower case that you would suggest that would be better in temp and noise than the be quite! case? Also, are there any changes you would suggest to improve this build? From what it seems, it will do everything I want very well. Just thought I'd ask if there was anything. Oh! Other question: Why did you choose this Mobo in particular? I don't know much about Mobos so it would be good to get an idea why you chose this board over others.

I chose it because your budget is $3000 and it is among the best B550 boards available. God tier VRM and tons of features and configuration options. Total overkill, but like I said, $3000 budget for a gaming build... Other equally overkill options are:

When filled with all (7) of it's fans. It has some is the best temps of anycase.

Ok, I'll replace the memory with some gskill.

Whit that aio (3 120mm) there is no "comperbable air cooler". Once you get that big, there is a significant advantage. Plus, aios don't limit ram clearence with a aio, like you can have with a high end air cooler.

Air coolers and aios are usually comoerbable. But when you get into the 360 rads, the aios start to preform better.

Platinum rating doesn't make it a better PSU. A gold rating is fine for this case.

Ok, in that case you would have 2 choices. You could do either raid 0 or raid 1. You have double the writes, and double the reads with raid 0. You have 1tb total storage, but a drive can fail without loosing data with raid 1.

Its one of the highest quality b550 boards. If you wanted more gen4 drives, I would get something like the srtix x570e gaming. Better mobos have better VRMs, and better traces/oc support for things like more stable ram ocs.

More ram (64gb), less storage (4tb 1tb pcie gen 4 with 3tb sata.

Ok, so I took both of your lists and did some more research on what I'm looking for and I came up with this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/charmander170/saved/JXBW4D

(I dont know how to do the cool lists like you both did.... and hopefully this link works, idk)

I think there are compatibility problems with the MOBO and the case with USB ports but I'm not totally sure. What would you suggest different with this build or how to get those compatibility problems to go away? In order to get these compatibility problems to go away and have all the ports on the case work, I can go over the "$3000" budget by a little, just want everything to work that I have. (ALSO the Monitor is there in place of the GPU price) And I probably will get the 5950X more towards the end of the year

I wouldn't get that case without doing custom loop watercooling. The mesh c up above doesn't have any incompatibilities, and would probably be a lot better. (And is great with all fans for airflow.
