Hey this may sound weird but is there a disadvantage in adding two M.2s to both of the slots on my B550 motherboard? I always see youtubers adding just one M.2 and then an external SSD/HDD. Does it matter if one is standard M.2 and the other NVMe?

yes you can do it, one should run from PCIe lanes from the CPU and the other one from the chipset.

Check your motherboard manual, some SATA ports on the motherboard may get disabled when using the chipset one, really depends on the motherboard though.
